When it comes to video games, it’s rare to find a community that feels seen and heard by developers - especially with large or more popular games that have been around for over a decade. However, there are a few gems where the relationship between the players and devs feels genuine. Terraria is one of these gems.
This blog initially started with a different topic. We were going to highlight vanity sets and list the ways to get each one, but in the middle of this, news hit that Jason “Leinfors” Parker, a team member at Re-Logic, had passed away. We had just finished writing about his vanity set in-game, so we decided to hold off everything and highlight Leinfors as a member of Re-Logic, a valued part of the Terraria community, and a genuine friend to all.
Leinfors was a paragon of virtue for the community. He was highly devoted to Terraria and ensuring it lived up to the standards of the players. Loki, Head of Business Strategy and Marketing at Re-Logic, told us he used to joke by calling him the “Encyclopedia Terraria.” Jason started as a Beta tester and a moderator of the Terraria community forums. Re-Logic then brought him on as their QA needs grew, where he thrived. According to team members, Leinfors stepped into a leadership role where he built out critical reporting and testing systems. Jason didn’t stop there, though. He took it upon himself to learn some introductory programming and then entirely threw himself into the balance roll.
When you play Terraria, there probably isn’t anything Leinfors didn’t work on. Jason was tagged the “Balance Guru” of Terraria. According to team members, all of the rebalancing for 1.4 was driven by his efforts while gathering copious amounts of community feedback.
While talking to Loki to learn more about Leinfors and his work, he said, “The full overhaul of melee that we saw in the Labor of Love update? Jason. Rework of flails? Jason. You could go on and on for hours.” Leinfors also had another passion project - the Rubblemaker. The builders had long desired this item's capabilities, and Jason was a strong proponent for adding cool stuff that the community wanted. According to Loki, “...it was an extremely proud moment for him when the dream became a reality.” Fun fact: Jason was one of Loki’s core partners while working on the graphic novel, and if you look at the front inside cover, you’ll see him in the credits.
Aside from his hard work to make Terraria the best it can be, Leinfors also has a beautiful in-game vanity set that happens to be my favorite. It’s a magical black and purple set that feels straight out of Bloodborne. It includes the Leinfors’ set - Leinfors’ Hair Protector, Leinfors’ Excessive Style, and Leinfors’ Fancypants. There’s also Leinfors’ Luxury Shampoo that will make your hair sparkle. Leinfors’ Prehensile Cloak is a non-vanity wing item of cyan rarity that will allow you to fly for 2.5 seconds. The complete set can be obtained rarely (5% chance) from Treasure Bags dropped from Hardmode bosses (except Queen Slime's).
Jason was a dedicated teammate and friend to the community as well. Jason had a genuine heart for people. If someone were in need, he would be there. He was a force for both good and optimism, as shown in his final tweet (as seen in the header image). He will be greatly missed, but the Leinfors Legacy is strong and lasting. His work and dedication to Terraria and its community will never be forgotten.
The beautiful tributes to Leinfors by multiple community members only showcase how much he meant to those in the community. If you haven’t seen them, feel free to check out this Reddit thread along with Loki’s post in the Community Forum. We have also added some beautiful art pieces we found around Twitter and Reddit designed by community members in his honor.
