Haptic: I HAVE ARRIVED!
Yes, Haptic has finally reached the Mistlands! Well… some of our users have… Unfortunately, this writer is not one of them. I personally spent 4 hours trying to get my belongings back after dying in a swamp eight times to mosquitos, Draugr, green blobs, and two wraiths. I eventually got my stuff back (YAY!), but don’t catch me in the mist anytime soon. Instead, all of us at Haptic have thoroughly enjoyed watching Twitch streamer ThatMindlessGuy travel through the mist for us.
The much anticipated Mistlands update has been immense, with a new biome full of terrifyingly strong enemies, new resources, recipes, fishing, weapons, armor, wildlife, a new boss, and magic! And Haptic supports it all! After some tinkering, magic, and feedback from our fantastic community, Haptic servers are fully prepared to support your Mistlands runs and will forever support any more updates IronGate bestows upon us.
The general consensus among players is that Mistlands, though beautiful, is downright brutal. In fact, some have likened this new update to Darksouls-level difficulty with how hard the enemies hit. Happen to fall into a hole with a few Seekers? You’ll run out, tail between your legs, with a heart rate of 180 bpm. OR you’ll be dead and wondering how in the world you’ll ever get your items back. But as you gather resources and get new gear, getting through the Mistlands will get easier. And eventually, you’ll be able to take on The Queen.
If you don’t know who ThatMindlessGuy is, he’s an Affiliate streamer on Twitch and has almost 1,300 hours invested into Valheim. If you’re looking for an expert, he’s the one to turn to. Of course, we had to hear his thoughts on the new update. We asked him what his favorite part of Mistlands has been so far, “ My favorite part of the Mistlands update so far is that it neatly ties all the (current) biomes together in the sense you will need resources from all previous biomes just to venture through Mistlands. Before, you could do a boss without returning to the previous biome.”
However, Mindless let us know that his least favorite addition is the Eitr refinery. “Although it’s needed for Mistlands, it comes with a destructive annoyance… while crafting your magic eitr, it randomly expels particles around, damaging buildings and players."
But even though it may be hard at first, Mistlands does get better. According to Mindless, “No one is saying how easy it gets when you have the right tools for the job. I have one melee weapon from Mistlands, a black metal shield, and some Mistlands health foods, and I can explore without much difficulty unless I get swarmed now.” So there is hope! You just have to die a few times to get there… hopefully.
Don’t do it.
If you have to, don’t attempt to go into the mist until beating the 5th boss, Yagluth, who holds the key to being able to explore Mistlands.
You want to go in with maxed-out armor and weapons.
Go in with the best food you can possibly craft. You can still get taken to half-health with one hit at 160 HP.
Make healthy potions!
Learn to parry; a shield will be necessary even if you’ve never needed to use one before.
Mine petrified bone as soon as you find it.
Ticks are annoying, so take them out quickly.
Gjalls are weak from the bottom.
Parry Seekers.
Run behind Seeker Soldiers and use a heavy attack after they stomp on the ground.
Dvergers are friendly until you attack them or steal from them, but they hold the resources you need. Be cautious. The ravens can only warn you so much.
Other good tips are to make sure you have a wisp before you run headfirst into the mist (check out IronGate watching Timo_Redbeard travel into the mist with no wisps), craft some backup armor and weapons in case you die and need to get back to your loot and find a spot to enclose a teleporter and some storage to quickly make it back to your previous location.
But no matter how dangerous the Mistlands may be, the design and music are as breathtaking as ever. If you get the chance, just sit and enjoy the view, but be careful not to get taken out by a Gjall while you do.
Adding a whole new biome comes with a LOT of new content, but there are also new mechanics and a whole fishing update. So here’s a quick breakdown of everything new.
