Ahhh, Halloween. Samhain. Spook’s Night. PUMPKIN TIME. I’m a huge fan of this time of year. The air is crisp, but not cold. The leaves on the trees are changing their dress for one final dance on the breeze. Being outside with a nice fire to keep the nip away…but what of videogames? Well, lots of games these days like doing seasonal content. The games we have here at Haptic are no different.
Minecraft regularly releases Halloween-themed content and events, especially in the Java Edition of the game. Some of the Halloween-themed features and events that have been a part of Minecraft in the past include:
1. Minecraft Halloween Texture Packs: Mojang, the developer of Minecraft, often releases special Halloween-themed texture packs that can be applied to the game. These texture packs change the appearance of various blocks, items, and mobs to give the game a spooky feel.
2. Spooky Skin Packs: Special Halloween-themed skin packs for players' characters are often made available. These skins can be used to dress up your character in costumes suitable for Halloween.
3. Halloween Decorations: In the past, Minecraft has added Halloween-themed decorations like Jack-o'-lanterns, carved pumpkins, and spiderwebs. These can be used to decorate your world or your player-created structures.
4. Seasonal Events: Sometimes, Minecraft introduces special in-game events during the Halloween season. These events may involve new mobs or challenges related to Halloween themes. Players can participate in these events to earn unique rewards.
5. Minecraft Halloween Mash-Up Pack: This is a DLC pack that typically includes a specially themed world with its own unique challenges and adventures, as well as custom textures and skins for players and mobs.
6. Community Events: Minecraft has a large and active community, and many players and server operators create their own Halloween-themed events, mini-games, and custom maps that you can download and play.
Terraria often includes Halloween-themed events and content as part of its annual "Halloween Event," known as the "Halloween seasonal event." During this event, players can enjoy various spooky additions to the game. Some of the Halloween-themed content and events in Terraria include:
1. Pumpkin Moon Event: The Pumpkin Moon is a special event that takes place during the night. During this event, players face off against waves of Halloween-themed enemies, including pumpkin-headed zombies and spooky ghosts. The goal is to survive through multiple waves and defeat powerful boss monsters to earn unique Halloween-themed items and currency.
2. Frost Moon Event: The Frost Moon is another seasonal event that occurs during the night. While it is primarily a Christmas-themed event, it often coincides with the Halloween event, and it features challenging waves of enemies, including holiday-themed bosses. Players can earn rare items and accessories during this event.
3. Pumpkin Moon Medallion: To start the Pumpkin Moon event, players must craft a Pumpkin Moon Medallion. This item is created using various materials and is then used to summon the event at night. It's a way for players to actively participate in the Halloween festivities.
4. Halloween Costumes: Terraria often introduces new Halloween-themed vanity sets or costumes that players can collect or craft. These outfits allow players to dress up their characters in various spooky or thematic costumes.
5. Jack O' Lanterns: Special Jack O' Lanterns are added to the game, which can be used as decorations. They emit a spooky orange light and are perfect for creating a Halloween atmosphere in your in-game structures.
6. Seasonal Items and Decorations: In addition to the specific events, Terraria often includes Halloween-themed decorations and furniture items that you can use to decorate your world and create a festive atmosphere.
This one is personally disappointing for me because we don’t really have any yet. Yeah, there is the turnip jack o’ lanterns, but that’s kind of it. An argument could be made that it’s Halloween all the time in this particular game, but we want pumpkins damn it! And maybe candy as food you can eat. Ah, well. There is time.
(There is also a decent community mod pack here.)
We hope you’ve had a good safe night and wish you good luck on your day of candy, costumes, and festive gourds.
