Your server hibernates when no players are connected and wakes up when someone wants to play. Your world is backed up and preserved automatically.

How it works

Wake and Play is how Haptic keeps your server ready without running it 24/7. When the last player disconnects, a countdown starts. After the idle timeout (10 minutes by default), your server shuts down gracefully and your world is backed up automatically.

When someone wants to play again, they start the server through the dashboard or a share link. Haptic restores the latest backup and brings the server online. The entire process takes a few seconds from a warm state, or 1-2 minutes if the server was in cold storage.

Your world state is fully preserved — all builds, player progress, inventories, and configuration carry over exactly as they were.

Why use Wake and Play

  • Lower cost — your server only uses resources when players are online.

  • World protection — creatures do not starve (Palworld), bases do not decay (ARK), and worlds do not progress (Valheim, Terraria) while the server is off.

  • Automatic backups — every hibernation creates a backup with no manual action required.

  • Stable hostname — your hostname stays the same between sessions. Share it once and friends can bookmark it.

What happens to your world

Everything is preserved. Your builds, explored areas, player inventories, server configuration, and mod data all carry over between sessions. Wake and Play does not reset or modify your world in any way.

Info:

Your hostname never changes between sessions. Share it with friends and they can wake the server anytime using the share link. The IP address may change, but the hostname is constant.

Which games support Wake and Play

Most games on Haptic support Wake and Play. Games like Minecraft, Valheim, Palworld, Terraria, Satisfactory, Don't Starve Together, Project Zomboid, and Enshrouded all work well because their worlds do not progress while the server is off.

Caution:

Rust requires a persistent (always-on) server because server rank resets when the IP changes. FiveM and RedM need continuous uptime for script state. These games are automatically set to persistent mode.
